Deputy tenor songman

David has been a Deputy Tenor Songman at York Minster for around 4 years; something he took up when his son and daughter were York Minster choristers. Whenever he was asked to sing, one or both of his children would be singing also - a wonderful experience and something very very special. York Minster has approximately 20 boys and 20 girls who usually sing separately except for special occasions. The otehr parts (alto, tenor, bass) are sung 4 to a part by 12 Songmen. David is one of the Deputies who are called on when one of the Songmen is unable to sing for whatever reason.

One particularly special service was the installation of Archbishop John Sentamu in November 2006 when all the boys and girls sang with additional songmen (including David). The service was in the nave of York Minster and was broadcast live on BBC2-TV. It included dancing and drumming as well as a picnic lunch in the nave.

During 2008, girls, boys and men (including David as an extra) from York Minster Choir went on tour to Italy and sang at: St. Paul’s within the Walls Rome, Santa Maria Maggiore Rome, Sienna Duomo, Florence Duomo, St. Mark’s Florence, La Baddia a Coltibuono Winery Florence. This was a wonderful experience; the spirit of which is partly captured in these photographs.
