HarmSyn for the iPad

HarmSyn - Harmonic Synthesis (Version 1.0 - December 2010)

Harmonic Synthesis is an iPad App to help understanding audio synthesis. It allows the user to adjust the amplitudes of the first 16 harmonics using sliders and to hear the result. Vibrato and tremolo, both with user-adjustable rate and extent, are available along with sliders for fundamental frequency or pitch (20Hz-20kHz log or linear), volume and a "Play"/"Stop" button. As the fundamental frequency is increased, the slider is removed for any harmonic that goes out of the hearing range (higher than 20 kHz).

A set of 11 selector buttons enables preset harmonic series to be produced as follows:

  • Sinewave
  • Harmonics 1-6
    (pitch perception demonstrations)
  • Harmonics 9-16
    (pitch perception demonstrations)
  • Odd harmonics
  • Amplitudes falling linearly
  • Amplitudes rising linearly
  • Squarewave
  • Sawtooth wave
  • Random amplitudes
  • All harmonics maximum
  • All harmonics minimum

FAQs
Frequently asked questions relating to my applications for iPad/iPhone/iPod touch applications are available where I shall endeavour to keep up with the questions that are asked. If you have comments or criticisms, please do contact me and I will try and change the App to meet your thoughts. Much more friendly than just leaving critical feedback.

NEXT UPDATE: None in the pipeline - no bugs reported.

Please be aware that listening to loud sounds can damage your hearing and use HarmSyn with care and due consideration for your own ears as well as the ears of others.
